Can you imagine having to flee your home country, not knowing when – if ever – you’ll be able to safely return? This is the situation of almost 20 million refugees around the world. These people have been threatened by persecution, war, or violence simply because of who they are or where they live. While each country is responsible for protecting the safety of its own citizens, the international community must protect refugees from countries who have failed to do so. Nations around the world are accepting these people and helping them adjust to their new lives, but there is always more we can do to welcome, support, and empower refugees.
