The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society. We seek to fill the following position:

Manager / Proposal Writer (f/m/div) - Executive Education

on a full-time basis (40 hours per week).

The contract shall commence as soon as possible and is initially limited for one year with the possibility of a renewal and an unlimited contract after two years.

Our Executive Education department is developing customised programmes for international groups and is also responsible for Open Enrolment.

Your tasks:

Your main area of responsibilty will be to manage the unit's efforts in Proposal Writing; this includes:

  • Coordinating all aspects of competitive tender applications issued by IOs, INGOs, development assistance providers, foundations, etc.; leads on tender preparation, consortium coordination and all other processes leading to final submission and implementation;
  • Identifying potential consortium partners and developing new executive education opportunities in a wide variety of areas, bringing to the task a well-developed and trusted network of clients;
  • Developing technical proposals, methodology and activities, as well as negotiating project shares, work packages and budgets in coordination with our faculty and external experts;
  • With a deep background in analysing structural requirements for tender applications, overseeing the editing and proofreading of draft proposals in a coordinated process and ensuring their highest quality;
  • Being responsible for all compliance and contract-related issues, and overall tender requirements;
  • Meeting proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, review and approval, and coordinates requirements with contributors;
  • Closely and regularly reporting on pipeline projects and managing budgets together with the team's Finance Associate.

Your profile:

  • 6+ years ideally in international cooperation and development, in a consultancy, as part of a technical assistance project or in a higher education/international research institution;
  • International academic and professional background preferably in executive education management a distinct plus;
  • University degree, preferably in the fields of social or political sciences;
  • Extensive experience in, and successful record of, managing the full cycle of proposal development, and in ensuring in-house procedures and proposal quality-control mechanisms are followed;
  • Experience in developing and articulating log frame, measurable outputs, outcomes and their deliverables and indicators; knowledge of other structural requirements of specific international institutions active in publishing tenders is a plus;
  • Exceptional project management and writing skills; attention to detail, excellent organizational and time-management skills, analytical mindset, pro-active, efficient work style and ability to work under pressure and as part of a high-performance team;
  • Experience in communicating and negotiating with global partners and clients;
  • Knowledge of budgeting for large-scale multi-annual projects, and reporting;
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work effectively within multi-lingual and multi-disciplinary teams and with international clients;
  • Native or excellent English language skills. Other languages (esp. German) are an advantage but not required.
