With the NHS facing a funding gap estimated at £30bn by 2020/21, Wayra UK believes that we need to look ahead to the future delivery of innovative healthcare solutions. That's why the organization is launching Velocity Health, an initiative that will accelerate healthcare start-ups that identify new and sustainable ways of delivering patient care.
Through this programme, selected start-ups will receive funding of up to £68,000, recently refurbished office space, dedicated mentors and coaches, master classes, and access to a global network of investors. The innovative digital technologies that emerge, Wayra believes, will empower patients to take more control and ownership over their well-being.
For 2017, Velocity Health will launch two verticals to support start-ups developing technologies that support those living with lifelong health conditions. Living With and Beyond Cancer will help to support people affected by cancer to self-manage their recovery, while Delivering on Diabetes will aim to improve the treatment and care received by people living with Type 2 Diabetes. Both will aim to increase survivability and the sustainability of healthcare provision.
